License Renewal

  • Renewal cadence: Annually. You can renew online approximately 60 days prior to the license’s expiration date.
  • Renewal fee: $110
  • Required contact hours: Two contact hours of training or education on the following. One contact hour is defined as at least 50 minutes of instruction.
    –  Screening for conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, risk of suicide, depression and grief
    – Suicide prevention training. 
  • You have a grace period of 90 days following expiration during which time the licensee may continue to practice and renew the license.  On the 91st day, the license becomes void and the licensee must apply for reinstatement.

  • No background check or fingerprints are needed in order to apply for licensure by endorsement.

Process

Permanent License

  1. Register a new account
  2. Submit an application online and pay the fee.
  3. Upload a recent photo of yourself.
  4. Request verification of licensure via Nursys from your original state of licensure and all other states where you have ever held a professional license. If these stats do not participate in Nursys, you will need to contact that state’s BON and request verification be sent to the Connecticut BON via the Verification of Licensure form.
  5. Submit official transcripts if the Connecticut Board of Nursing was unable to verify your education information through your license verification (if applicable).

Temporary License

  1. The temporary license is valid for 120 days and is non-renewable.
  2. Once all items have been received by the BON except license verification from a non-Nursys participating state, you may be issued a provisional license.
  3. In order to be eligible for the temporary license, you must hold an active license in another state that can be verified through Nursys.
