LICENCE RENEWAL

  • Renewal cadence: March 31st of odd numbered years
  • Renewal fee: $190
  • Required contact hours: 400 in the past 2 years or 120 days within the past 5 years
  • Submit a renewal application online, pay the renewal fee, and complete a new background check
  • Renewal applications open 6 weeks prior to expiration of your license. A courtesy notification will be sent to the email address on file when your renewal window opens.

  • The application portal is only supported on laptops or desktops on the Google Chrome browser. The application portal is not supported by Safari, tablet, or mobile devices.

Process

Permanent License

  1. Submit an application online and pay the fee.
  2. Request verification of licensure via Nursys from your original state of licensure and the state where you are currently employed. If these states do not participate in Nursys, you will need to contact that state’s BON and request verification be sent to the Vermont BON.
  3. Provide a background check with fingerprints. You will need to have a release form signed and notarized before submitting it to the BON. Once received, the BON will send fingerprinting instructions to you via email. Fingerprints can be completed in Vermont or out of state. Temporary License

  1. If you wish to be issued a provisional license, please indicate this within the online application.
  2. Temporary permits are valid for 90 days.
  3. Once all items have been received by the BON except the background check and/or verification of licensure, you may be issued a provisional license.
